Avril

Site Before Purely Gardens Arrive

One of our most favourite clients is Avril (who makes a great cuppa and always has a ready supply of biscuits) asked me to come up with a design that would allow her to tend to her garden but take into account her lack of mobility due to a recent stroke.

Avril had moved from a large landscaped garden with mature trees and an abundance of flowers to a small ground floor flat with grim fencing and not much of interest.

We decided to build Avril raised beds using railway sleepers as they are economical and would be sufficiently sturdy enough for her to perch on and tend to her flowers.  We built the raised beds all round the perimeter of her garden, lined both sides with membrane and filled with quality soil and compost before planting.

The planting scheme incorporated sambucus, alliums, geraniums, pieris, camelias, cornus and tulips as well as fragrant climbers such as clematis and honeysuckle to cover the fences.

Avril loved her garden as there is always something to look at.  The bare fences are now virtually covered with climbers, the shrubs are thriving and the joy it brings her is very rewarding.
